Tip #6-   This week's tip is to sort through your recipes.

There are many ways recipe cards can be creatively
stored.  Some day (not this week!) I would like to create
a recipe journal or recipe scrapbook of family recipes.  I
would like to give one to each of my daughters (and
daughters-in-law).  But until I have time to undertake
that project I would just like to organize my cards so that
they are not overflowing in the boxes.

I love to receive recipe cards in the giver's handwriting.  When I pull the cards
from their recipe box and begin to cook I immediately feel close and connected
with the person that graciously shared their cooking secrets.  I have had my recipes
organized in two boxes: one for deserts and the other for entres.  However, I have
so many now that when I open the door of my Hoosier cabinet the cards start to
tumble out!  So my plan is to get several photo albums, the kind that you could slip
a photo (or recipe) in its own individual sleeve and then journal or write a note
beside each one.  I will categorize the recipes such as Breakfast, Appetizers, Soups,
Salads, Entres: Beef, Poultry, Seafood, Deserts, Cookies, Drinks, and Holiday
Specials.

In all honesty this may take me longer than a week but my goal and plan are in
place- a good start!

Enjoy these last Winter days with baking and let me know how your organizing is
going.
TIP #5-
As I think about what to suggest with you more and more ideas of organizing
keep coming to me.  Just as I was pondering the amount of areas in our homes that
need organizing I had a conversation with a friend.  She said that after having a baby
three months ago
she has found it helpful to keep order in her home by concentrating
on one small area a day
.  Maybe it is one drawer in her kitchen.  She  may only
accomplish getting that one drawer of utensils sorted and cleaned out but she nows
that she is one drawer closer to her goal!  (Though we all know that just when she gets
everything in order she will have to begin again!)  But we want to keep our focus on
small, consistent accomplishments.

So for the next several weeks I am going to suggest some areas that I find seem to
clutter quite quickly and some never regain order except with conscious proactive
effort.

This week's TIP- Clean out your medicine cabinet.  Has flu season
hit your house?  If so you may find lots of half used bottles of cough syrup lying around
your house.  We keep that medicine in our kitchen but inevitably some bottles travel to
the upstairs for "before bed" dosages.  When I went through and actually found what we
had I was shocked.  Besides cough syrups we had many almost empty boxes of
decongestants, etc. that I was able to combine, not to mention pitching the expired
medicines.  All of this sorting made for much more space.  Wipe the inside of your
cupboards and medicine cabinets while you are sorting too!

Tip #7-
This week's tip is something really fun and I do hope that you try it!

As I was donning my brighter, lighter colors I also switched to matching shades of
make-up.  Instead of darker burgundies and grays, I am bringing out poppy pinks
lip sticks, and lilacs, teals, and baby blue eye shadows.  Yes, I DO wear an
occasional gray and burgundy in the summer and pinks in the winter, but I want to
feel the full effect of "Spring is here!" so I will do pastels and brights for now. Do
you do the same or are you stuck in a rut with your make-up?
This week sort through your make-up,
pitch out any old stuff.  While you are at it go through any old hair
and other beauty products and pitch those too.  Assess what you have left.

Now, some time this week I want you to go to a major department store that has
cosmetic lines or a beauty store such as Ulta and
have the sales consultant do your
make-up for you
.  These make-overs are free and you are not obligated to make a
purchase.  However, beware the consultant will probably try out a new product that
you have to have.  Recently I purchased an eye product called "lemon-aid" from the
Benefits line at Ulta.  I love it!  The creamy stuff is placed over your eye lid.
Whether you do not want to wear any eye shadow or not the "lemon-aid" will really
brighten your eyes and make them "pop"!

After your "make-over" you will be sure to leave feeling like a new, refreshed
woman taking many new ideas and techniques with you!  If possible buy a color of
lip stick, nail polish, or eye shadow that is new to you.  It is really amazing how
good you will feel with one small change like this.  Cosmetic lines such as Clinique
and Estee Lauder have Spring sales this time of year.  If a purchase of $17.50 (or
thereabouts) is made a free gift of assorted cosmetics and bag is given.  Just be sure
that you like the colors in the free gift before you make the needed purchase.  If
spending the money right now is not an option, ask for free samples of the products
that you liked.  Tell her that you would like to try it out longer before you make a
purchase.  Do not be shy!

Take this time for yourself.  You will look and feel the Happier Homemaker!
